Chilly conditions will continue today, but the sun might make an occasional appearance through the day. As this nice cold/dry area of high pressure shifts off to the east, onshore winds will return and there will be a drastic moistening/warming tonight through Thursday. Southerly winds will actually become quite strong on Thursday ahead of a low pressure system. Gusts in the 30-40 mph range will be possible, especially in showers and thunderstorms.
Speaking of showers and thunderstorms, the coverage of this activity ahead of this next system looks quite extensive with most areas seeing some periods of heavy rainfall. Rain chances will ramp up over Houston by Thursday morning with peak thunderstorm chances in the afternoon. Farther east over Acadiana, things will be a little later with peak rain chances occurring in the evening and overnight.
Severe thunderstorms are looking to be a threat, but mainly for SE TX. It currently doesn't look like enough instability will lift inland to produce a severe concerns for Acadiana, but that could change. Where severe storms do develop, locally damaging wind gusts and tornadoes will be a threat. Tornadoes could become a particular concern over coastal counties of SE TX. As far as rainfall, much of the region will see 1.25 - 2.5 inches of rain with locally up to 3-4 inches possible. There is still a bit of uncertainty as to where the heaviest rain will fall.
In the wake of this system, there won't be a drastic drying/cooling and conditions will remain somewhat unsettled through the weekend as the subtropical jet stream remains active. They'll likely be another round of showers and storms before we see another push of drier/colder air ...which should move in by early next week.
