Showers and thunderstorms will continue to increase across SE TX this morning with a good coverage through early afternoon as a disturbance moves in from the west. There could be a few lingers showers through early evening, but things should settle over the second half of the afternoon through the evening. Rainfall amounts will average 0.5 to 1.5 inches for many areas today with some regions possibly seeing 3-5 inches where heavier storms develop. This could lead to some localized flooding issues on roads that typically see ponding of water.
Farther east, a few showers will be possible across Acadiana this morning, but the better chance of showers and storms will hold off until the afternoon hours as the disturbance gets closer and there is some daytime heating. The coverage won't be as widespread as it will be farther west, but it should still be around 60%. Locally heavy rainfall will be possible here as well.
Rain chances are a bit uncertain tomorrow, but enough lingering moisture will at least keep the risk of a few showers and afternoon thunderstorms in the forecast. Much better chances of rain will likely evolve over the Houston area as another disturbance moves in. However, the timing and location of this disturbance is very uncertain. Locally heavy rainfall could again be a threat. Farther east, Acadiana will have a bit drier air in place and will farther removed from the next disturbance. So, some areas will likely stay dry tomorrow.
A drying trend is expected over the weekend, although rain chances will remain up around 30-40% over Houston Saturday. Also, look for humidity levels to drop Sunday and Monday which will lead to some nicer mornings and evenings to end out the weekend and start next week.
The extended forecast through next week looks hotter with low rain chances. Afternoon highs will average above normal, likely low to mid 90s (no more triple digit heat for the year).
Thank God for the rain while we have it!
