Houston stays soggy...cold front coming!

A stream of Gulf moisture will keep the Houston area wet today with some areas potentially seeing another 1-2 inches. Many areas will see less, but most locations around Houston should see at least a trace. Farther east, Acadiana will stay rain free.

After today, the upcoming cold front will be the main focus for rain chances. Again, the Houston area will see a much greater chance of showers and storms. Heavy showers and thunderstorms will fire over north Texas today ahead of the front and a broken band of showers and storms should push southward tonight and tomorrow morning, eventually moving into SE TX. Thunderstorms should be weakening, so I don't expect widespread severe thunderstorms. Gusty winds will still be possible. Lingering moisture will lead to a lingering chance of showers and storms through the afternoon and evening hours Thursday, but drier weather will move in Friday. This will be an initial surge of drier and cooler air, but the real push of cooler/drier air will hold off until Friday and we get another, stronger, surge on Saturday.

Farther east, the initial surge of drier/cooler air will hold off until late Thursday and Thursday night, and this will be the timing of the best chance of showers and thunderstorms. Rain chances will only be around 40% and the activity should not be very long lasting. So, don't expect much relief from the drought conditions. Like Houston, the real surge of drier air will hold off until Friday but the strongest push of colder air will be Saturday.

Taking a look at where temperatures will bottom out with the surges of colder air, the data is still a bit varied. For Houston, it could be anywhere from mid 60s to upper 40s Sunday and Monday. For Acadiana, it could be from the upper 50s to mid 40s. Either way, its going to feel real nice! I'm thinking it will be on the cooler side of things based on which models are going which way. We'll get a better idea today and tonight as the cold air starts to spill through the Plains.

God bless!
