The weather will remain pretty nice today, but winds will turn onshore and moisture levels will start to rise in advance of a potent storm system that will be widespread rain and storms tomorrow into Friday.
The greater Houston area will see the peak of the thunderstorm activity mid morning through early afternoon tomorrow. Look for very gusty winds as well which will continue into the afternoon. In thunderstorms, wind gusts to 35-45 mph will be possible. Isolated severe storms will be a threat which could produce an isolated tornado or two. There remains some uncertainty on the tornado threat, but enough is there to be on close watch. Please stay tuned to watches and warnings(NWS Advisories | ParishWeather). Thunderstorms wont' be as widespread after 3-4 pm, but a few storms will remain possible through tomorrow night as the front slowly makes its way through.
Farther east over Acadiana, peak thunderstorm chances will be late in the day Thursday through tomorrow night. Isolated severe storms will also be possible, but the threat looks a bit lower. However, keep a weather radio, or a way to be alerted to warnings, close by through the night.
The good news with all this active weather is most areas will see 1-2 inches of rain with some folks getting up to 3-4 inches. This won't end the Louisiana drought, but it will knock a good dent in it.
Some showers and storms could linger through the day Friday and early Saturday, mainly over Acadiana, then drier and cooler air pushes in late in the weekend and into next week.
God Bless!
