Still watching that front...rain increasing for Texas

A pretty warm and dry day is expected today, but some moisture spreading in off the western Gulf will bring showers and a few thunderstorms to SE TX starting tomorrow morning. School drop off and the bus ride in the morning might be a little wet for some places, especially south of I-10. A few showers and thunderstorms will remain possible on Wednesday over the Greater Houston area. Look for Acadiana to stay mostly dry through Wednesday.

After Wednesday, all the attention will really turn towards the upcoming cold front. Timing and intensity is still uncertain, as is the norm with these early season fronts. In general, they don't typically turn out as cool as the models predict this time of year, but even if this one isn't, moisture levels and temperatures will still fall to below normal for the weekend. The Houston area will likely start feeling the lower humidity through the day on Friday with Acadiana really feeling it Friday night into Saturday morning. I'm seeing a variation of around 5-10 degrees on where temperatures will bottom out with this front, but even the warmer side of the data is still showing low to mid 60s Sunday and Monday morning. Could be well into the 50s if the cooler models are correct. We shall see.

As far as rain with the front, this will not be a drought buster for SE TX and Acadiana. This is especially true for Acadiana where much of the area might not see any rain this week. For the Houston area, that will be different. After some rain tomorrow morning (some areas could see an inch or two...most won't) another 0.5 inch to 1.5 inches will be possible late Thursday ahead of the front. Locally, even higher totals are possible. The risk of strong thunderstorms is a bit uncertain, but it'll be something to watch in the coming days.

Thank God for a continued trend towards cooler...and a little wetter (for some). Watch for the fall fishing to start cranking up!
