Very hot, but not completely dry

The rest of the week looks very hot, but there could be a couple isolated showers or thunderstorm each day which will provide some temporary relief for a few locations. Shower/thunderstorm coverage will be in the 20-30% range around Acadiana and 10-20% in Houston. The few storms that manage to develop could produce some very gusty winds and brief heavy rain. Afternoon highs will be in the upper 90s around Acadiana (some spots up near 100F) and near to low 100Fs around the Houston area.

The ridge of high pressure responsible for the heat and low rain chances will begin to retreat by Saturday (looking a little quicker than it did yesterday). This along with a weak front approaching from the north will lead to better rain chances Saturday. Its a bit uncertain how much dry air will move in with the front Sunday and into early next week, but in general, afternoon highs will average lower and rain chances will be a little higher. Expect some changes with the forecast as there is low confidence in the placement of the front and a trough of low pressure over the Southeast U.S.
